Boston GREAT DANE Judge Stella Clarke
May I first thank the Boston committee for inviting me to judge my very last show after 59 years of judging. What a fantastic way to finish amongst friendly exhibitors and beautiful dogs. First a little gripe, I was disappointed with movement on quite a few. Some out at the elbow and turning toes in on the move. Such a shame, many looked good standing but lost out on their movement. My final decisions were from the heart and my personal preference. MPD (1) 1 Wright & Cranfield. Zefathers Two Faces with Irieusdane. Promising fawn who showed a good overall balance at this stage of development. Clean head with good lip line. Good fore chest. Strong hind quarters showing a good second thigh.moved well PD (2) 1 Pockock & Pavlou Bubba Von Pao Eberjager with Tamzdane (imp FCA) Mantle of great beauty both standing and on the move, Shows elegant yet powerful construction. Neck flows correctly in to good lay of shoulder. Beautiful top line, strong hind quarters He has a clean well balanced head with broad muzzle and clean lip, Fore chest well muscled. Deep brisket with plenty of heart room. Has a very bright future. 2 Simpson, Renescent Bewitched. Black in gleaming condition, shows well proportioned construction. Although of good bone I would expect a better second thigh. His head is of good balance and in proportion to body clean cheeks and flat skull. To day he was moving rather close behind, a pity as he looked good standing. JD (4) 1 Spackman. Novavida Norseman Warrior (AI) Brindle of quality. Sound in all departments. Liked his outline, strong front & well muscled fore chest, good rib and depth of brisket. Well chiselled head with broad muzzle and clean lip line strong arched neck flowed in to a good top line. A little more effort moving would have completed the picture. 2 Tempest. Adoreadane Yellowstone (A1) Mantle,Head in proportion to the whole and set on strong powerful neck and good front. He has a very good top line blending in to well muscled hind quarters. So was surprised his movement could have been more positive. 3 Eagleton Pepper. Danemoor Callum. YD (1) 1 Eagleton Pepper Danemoor Callum. Black of slighter build, would prefer overall a more masculine dog. Not the balance I was looking for. Very raw at this stage of development PGD (2,1) 1 Pendleton-Watkins. Goldania,s King Of Drago JW. Brindle, Clean head. Lovely soft expression. Strong neck but rather a soft top line. Needs more rib and more tuck up. Hind quarters could do with more muscle and his feet could be better. Needs more positive movement. LD(4,2) 1 Lawson. Creeek Danes Out Of Darkness At Drookakiss (imp USA) Blue, Built on heavier lines with not quite the balance I was looking for. Rather heavy front. Would have liked to see a better tuck up and second thigh. Could be more positive on the move. 2 Birch. Busdan Ziva,s Terzo. Blue. Not showing correct balance for me. Could do with a better front and top line. Neck showing loose skin at base of neck which rather spoilt his top line. Felt he could do with more body. OD (5,1) 1 Pocock. Ch/Lux/Swiss Ch Tamzdane Empower Mint JW. Mantle that was my male star of the day. A dog to dream for. Stunning and so well balanced Beautiful well chiselled head with correct indent the whole head clean and well defined. Looking from any angle so in proportion to the whole dog. Powerful neck flowing with no loose skin into a good top line and sound hind quarters, Strong hocks. Good bone throughout and well padded feet. Moving out with a free spring and strong driving action. Head held high. Looking elegant and Majestic. DOG CC 2 Palmers, Adoreadane Charlton (A1) Harlequin. Another stunning dog. BP PB 4 (2) 1 Bielecka. Alegriagiant Casjopeya. Very feminine Mantle, Lovely head & eye good neck and top line, Still rather raw needing to fill in chest. Moving rather close behind lacking drive. Just needs more time. 2 Mitchell Hooker & Lockey. Garsak Rainbow Beautiful head on this lovely fawn. She has such a lovely expression. Her overall construction shouts quality lovely bone but needs to fill in fore chest. Front movement not the best. JB (7,4) 1 Page & Concannon Novavida Shieldmaiden. Well chiselled clean head on this feminine fawn, well arched neck leading to good shoulder and fore chest. Correct spring of rib, just needs to drop in brisket a tad as she is otherwise very well balanced standing. Strong well muscled hind quarters and good hocks allowed her to move with an easy gait. 2 Pendleton-Watkins. Goldanias Princess Etain. Very feminine clean head, well defined and in proportion to overall balance. Clean well muscled neck with good lay of shoulder but needs to fill out in fore chest. Would like to see a more tighter eye line. 3 Cole & Thorn. Fonblanque Fiona. YB (4) 1 Simpson. Standing looked well balanced throughout moving out well on tight well padded feet. 2 Page & Concannon. Novavida Aesirs Conquest.Clean head but would like better eye. Not the balance of winner. Would like to see less skin at base of neck as this spoilt the flow of neck in to the lay of shoulder for me. Overall a nice bitch with time on her side. PGB (5,2) 1 Pocock. Keishant Athena, So very feminine, overall showed a nice outline. Her head is clean with good lip line. Not a big girl but in proportion throughout. Blue.Stronger type but overall shows a good outline.Head rather strong for me. but good neck and shoulder, good rib and well let down brisket, moved out quite well. Bet she was lovely as a youngster, she still retains much quality even though more matronly now. Her head is still clean with no coarseness anywhere. I admire how her owner has kept her in such good show condition. Movement a bit slow now but I know that feeling comes to us all. SPECIAL BEGINNERS (3) 1 Cope & Thorn. Fonblanque Fiona. Harlequin of good size, not quite the balance I was looking for but pleasing overall. Head of good type with flat back skull. Clean lip line. Strong neck flows in to good top line.
