SCOTTISH GREAT DANE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 15th JUNE  Judge Mickey Ramsay

My thanks to the SGDC for the invitation/ honour to judge Dogs at their 60th Anniversary Championship Show. Huge congratulations to the club on running a successful show. The effort and thought that had been made to give the exhibitors an enjoyable day was obvious.

Although I stopped showing Danes after my husbands sudden death I have never lost my love & interest in the breed & this is the 15th time I have had the honour of awarding CC’s. I have also judged most breeds over the years making lifelong  friends on the way. Now time to hang up my judges hat! Thank you to my excellent stewards Betty & Anne who work as a first class team.

I enjoyed my day with you all but gone are the days when 20/30 dogs could enter the ring which made for exciting and interesting judging. Very sad to see the small class numbers now. The quality of the Males not quite as good as the lady’s.

I look for an overall balanced picture, a dog whose outline flows & everything fits and pleases the eye. Movement ok in most ,eye colour good, 2 minor mouth faults and 1 rather dirty teeth.

MPD  1 Jacques & Kirby’s JACQUIKIR TAKE ME HOME Beautiful 6mths fawn. Still at chunky stage and presenting a super balanced outline with good angulation both ends, good length of neck topped by a lovely head of good length, dark eye and kind gentle expression. Good bone, at 6months he has to strengthen in pasterns. Moved out well just a little loose coming towards. BPD. Had to give way to his gorgeous sister for BPIS.

PD 1  Simpson’s. RENESCENT BEWITCHED  Another beautiful puppy presented in gleaming black coat. At 10months  he has made his height and presents a clean flowing outline now to fill out &  mature to trouble the best. Long clean neck, head of good length, dark well shaped eye & lovely expression. He was quietly handled with his handlers orange jacket providing complimentary background! On the moved he covered the ground well just a little untidy coming towards.

JD (1) 1 Bartley’s  PRIMUS GAMBLER ATELIB   Big fawn boy of 12months & looking rather raw at the moment. Strong male head in proportion to body. Short coupled but falls off in croup & stands straight behind. Needs more upper arm & rather wide in front. His lack of angulation affected his movement especially behind which needs to strengthen.

YD (3) 1 McLellan’s  ANNADAIN DEAD RINGER FOR LOVE JW  Presents a picture of overall balance & strength. Good depth & width of chest, full front, strong topline, good croup & tailset. Clean neck topped by lovely male head of good length , with neat drop of lip ,dark eye & bright inquiring expression.Moved out well.

2 McGuinness & Nelson- McGuinness Mrs M & Mrs S DINAHTRON THE OMEN  Very showy fawn with impressive outline. Strong crested neck, lovely male head of good length a little light in eye but kind expression. A tad long but strong topline good croup & tailset shapely quarters with good width & bend of stifle. Good shoulder placement & full front. Unsettled by heavy rustling noise from the trees so didn’t give of his best on the move.

PGD (2) 1 Pendleton-Watkins Ms N  GOLDANIA’S KING OF DRAGO JW  Nicely marked golden brindle. Solid boy with good depth & width throughout. Long clean neck, balanced head, super pigmentation & dark mask. Straight front good lay of shoulder, could use a little more angulation behind. Sound on the move.

2 Mackenzie’s  ISLANDROSE A NOD TO VINCENT AT CARSAN (IKC) Blue good size & depth of chest. Neck of good length & head in proportion to body with neat drop of lip & super head carriage. Topline rather soft & could use more hind angulation which would strengthen his hind movement

LD (5) 1 McLellan’s  ANNADAIN LIFE IS A LEMON Fawn of 20ths Presents a clean, balanced outline & is elegant without losing masculinity. Good angulation both ends, well let down behind with good width & bend of stifle. Firm back line & tailset. Clean crested neck of good length topped by a balanced head of good length with dark eye, well set & carried ears, drop of lip not overdone & super enquiring expression. Moved out with good reach & drive from behind. Litter brother to Yearling winner & no doubt they will vie many times for top spot in the future. Delighted to give him his first CC. & RBIS

2 Munro’s  Roucandane Stolen Kisses  Upstanding fawn, strong neck, head of good length, eye could be darker but good pigmentation, could use ears more to advantage. Deep well sprung rib cage, straight front & good lay of shoulder a little more hind angulation would enhance overall balanced picture. Sound on the move.

SOBlackD 2  1 MacDonald’s  ZEUS NERO VON ADAMANTIUM OF RANALDANE (IMP DEU) IR JCH  CEN JW  Although he has size & is strongly made he retains an elegant impressive outline. Head a little strong for me, would prefer more length & less drop of lip, eyes dark & deep set. Good angulation fore & aft so covered the ground well on the move. Well handled & has good ring presence.

2 Tasker & Molloy’s  NEWARTHDANE MARS. Lighter in build than 1. Long clean neck, head a little wide in back skull. Good depth of chest & lay of shoulder. Topline could be stronger & could use more angulation behind. He is young & with time & maturity all to improve.

OD 3 (1) 1  Chappell Ms L & Mr A  CH SELMALDA JEALOUS GUY Has great ring presence & certainly fills the eye with his balanced flowing outline & excellent angulation both ends. His body is deep with well sprung ribcage & toned to perfection inside a tight fitting well marked brindle jacket. Topline & loin firm, croup & tailset spot on.Strong clean neck, head long & correct good pigmentation, dark eye kind expression with the look of true gentleman. He moved out with a ground covering stride here but seemed to tire in final run off. RDCC. My pleasure to met him.
